U2 Reprises Rooftop Rock Before Announcing MTV Awards Performance

Jeff Komanetsky, U2ZoneNews

Before announcing an upcoming MTV Euro Awards performance, U2 treated Dublin to a double blast from the past on Wednesday afternoon.

Playing atop the Clarence Hotel for the taping of the BBC Top of the Pops show, U2 belted out their first live performances of the soon to be released (Oct. 9th) "Beautiful Day" followed by "Elevation", the next track due out from the upcoming album. The "All That You Can't Leave Behind" CD, their first major work since 1997's POP, will hit stores in time for Halloween.

The modern day Fab Four reprised their rendition of rooftop rock, turning back to a page from their own "Where the Streets Have No Name" history, which itself was borrowed from The Beatles book of lore. "We've copied a lot of stuff from The Beatles in the past and this is just another thing," U2 frontman Bono said when asked about show on the roof, which was originally inspired by the Beatles.

After looking down to the crowd from their perch above Dublin, the band then set their sights their next performance, announcing exclusively to ShowBizIreland.com that they would play for this November's MTV Euro Awards show in Stockholm. "We look set to play the MTV Awards. It's just about confirmed. So, I can safely say we will perform," U2 guitarist, The Edge, confirmed.

In the interview from the band-owned Clarence Hotel in Dublin, Bono also reported to ShowBizIreland.com that he and the band are looking forward to touring again. "We are four people who love to hang out together and make music. A band, do you remember that? We love to tour and make music. It takes a lot for us to tour. We have to leave our mates and our families. So, this time I think we have 11 good reasons to leave. We are going back to being a band again."
